TracTracUK and kSail: Powering Team Racing at the Wessex Winter Warmer
TracTracUK was proud to collaborate with kSail to deliver live GPS tracking for one of the UK’s standout winter team racing events—the Wessex Winter Warmer, hosted by Southampton University at Spinnaker Sailing Club.
The Wessex Winter Warmer is an invitational team racing regatta featuring 20 teams from some of the best alumni and universities in the country and is widely regarded as a highlight of the winter team racing calendar. The result was a seamless, high-energy showcase of modern team racing, and a collaboration that proved just how powerful integrated digital race management can be.
A Perfect Match: TracTracUK and kSail
Team and match racing demand precision. Multiple races running back-to-back, frequent rotations, and tight tactical battles mean that accurate data and clarity are essential—for race officials, teams, and spectators alike.
KSail, who run the majority of university and open team racing events in the UK, provided the backbone of the event through their proven race management platform. For the Wessex Winter Warmer, KSail supplied an API link that allowed TracTracUK to connect directly into their system. This meant all 20 teams were automatically linked to the correct boats and correct matches, removing manual input and ensuring the tracking was always accurate and up to date.

131 Races of Non-Stop Action
Across the two-day event, an incredible 131 races were sailed before the Final and Petit Final stages. With TracTracUK tracking in place, every race could be reviewed, analysed, and replayed—bringing a new level of insight to umpires, sailors, and coaches.
From tight dial-ups off the start to decisive mark traps, the tracking clearly showed just how intense and tactical UK team racing has become, particularly within the university scene. Match racing-style manoeuvres, rapid decision-making, and ruthless teamwork were on display throughout the fleet.
A Thrilling Final
The final delivered exactly what team racing fans hoped for: a close, hard-fought battle right to the wire.
🏆 The Cumberland Sausages emerged victorious after a nail-biting final against the Cambermet Cardinals, with the outcome undecided until the very last moments.
Thanks to live and replayed tracking, the final could be analysed in detail—highlighting key positional gains, penalties forced, and the small margins that ultimately decided the result.
Looking Ahead
The success of the Wessex Winter Warmer underlined just how strong UK team and match racing is right now, particularly at university level. It also showed what’s possible when race management and tracking systems truly talk to each other.
