Turning Racing into Insight at Parkstone Yacht Club

Poole Week 2025 once again delivered everything that makes it one of the UK’s most-loved sailing regattas: competitive racing, a fantastic spread of classes, and a buzzing atmosphere both on and off the water. TracTracUK was delighted to be part of the event, supporting Parkstone Yacht Club with live GPS tracking across the week and adding a powerful new layer of insight to the racing.

Tracking Across the Fleets

Throughout the week, TracTracUK supplied GPS tracking across a wide range of fleets, ensuring that as many competitors as possible experienced the benefits of performance data and race replays. Coverage rotated between fleets to give everyone a turn under the microscope, including:

  • RS200

  • R2400

  • XOD

  • Merlin Rocket

  • ILCA

  • Dart 18

  • Redwings

  • Wayfarer

Each of these fleets had selected races tracked during the week, allowing sailors, coaches, and race officials to review racing in detail rather than relying purely on memory or anecdote.

The Daily Highlight: Race Replay Sessions

For many competitors, the standout feature of the week was the daily race replay session. After racing, each tracked race was replayed in full, with all the relevant data brought to life on screen.

These sessions went far beyond simply watching boats move around the course. Using TracTrac’s high-resolution tracking data, sailors could clearly see:

  • How races were won and lost

  • Key decisions at the start

  • Gains and losses upwind and downwind

  • Mark rounding efficiency

  • Boat-on-boat tactical choices

  • Speed, positioning, and lane management

By visualising the data, patterns quickly emerged. Small gains repeated lap after lap became obvious. Conservative choices versus high-risk strategies could be compared instantly. It gave sailors an objective view of what actually happened on the racecourse — often revealing surprises that weren’t apparent on the water.

Turning Data into Better Sailing

What made the replay sessions especially valuable was how accessible the information was. Sailors of all experience levels could see how the front of the fleet sailed differently, how shifts were used, and where opportunities were missed. For many, it sparked conversations that continued long after the screens were switched off.

For Parkstone Yacht Club, the tracking also added value to the regatta as a whole, enhancing the post-race experience and reinforcing Poole Week’s reputation as a forward-thinking, sailor-focused event.

A Brilliant Week on the Water

TracTracUK is proud to have supported Poole Week 2025 and to have worked alongside Parkstone Yacht Club to bring race data, analysis, and storytelling to such a diverse group of classes. Seeing sailors engage with the data, ask questions, and genuinely enjoy learning more about how races were won is exactly what live GPS tracking is all about.

We’d like to thank Parkstone Yacht Club, the race team, and all the competitors for a fantastic week — and we look forward to returning to Poole Week again in the future.
