Tracking Every Race at the UK's Biggest Dinghy Event
TracTracUK was proud to provide live GPS tracking for every race at the 2026 ILCA UK Nationals 2026 – the largest dinghy event in the UK this year.
Across six days of racing, we tracked all three fleets – ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 – delivering live coverage for 245 sailors over 53 races. Sailors, coaches, race officials and spectators could follow every start, every mark rounding and every finish in real time.
A real highlight was the giant screen at WPNSA, where competitors, families and visitors gathered throughout the day to watch the racing unfold live. Between races it became a focal point around the venue, with sailors replaying key moments and discussing tactics before heading back on the water.
The value of the tracking went far beyond simply showing boat positions. Sailors were able to replay every race and compare their performance against the front of the fleet. They could see who had the best start, who gained on the first beat, where the decisive passing opportunities occurred and, just as importantly, where positions were lost.
One of the most powerful insights came from the performance data. By comparing distance sailed, sailors could clearly see when a race had been won through better strategy rather than outright speed. A boat sailing fewer metres while maintaining the same pace often made significant gains, demonstrating the value of accurate positioning, smart tactical decisions and minimising manoeuvres. Combined with speed and VMG data, the replay showed exactly how the winning sailors built their advantage.
The 2026 ILCA UK Nationals demonstrated how live GPS tracking has become much more than a spectator tool. It is now a valuable coaching and performance analysis resource, helping sailors understand not just who won, but how they won.
Congratulations to ILCA UK on delivering another outstanding National Championships, and thank you for trusting TracTracUK to track every sailor, every race, from the first start to the final finish.
